Achilles was the demigod king of Myrmidons, the greatest warrior of the Trojan War and the central character of Homer’s Iliad. He was born in the ancient city of Phthia. He was the son of the Nereid Thetis and Peleus, the king of the

Myrmidons. Thetis was strongly attached to her son, when he was born, she tried to make him immortal, by dipping him in the waters of the river Styx. Thetis did not achieve this, while she was keeping him inside the waters, she had to hold her child by one heel, leaving one vulnerable spot in the body of Achilles.
